FRIM is a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES). We started as the Forest Research Institute (FRI) which was established in 1926 to undertake research and development (R&D) activities that support the forestry sector and the timber industry. The FRIM Act (Act 782) which came into force on 1 October 2016 allows FRIM to commercialise its R&D products as well as FRIM services for revenue generation.

In line with the current development and use of ICT as the major platform of communication, FRIM shares its latest updates and information on its R&D and commercialisation, as well as services through this website and social media especially Facebook.

Hopefully, the information provided on the website will enhance the public understanding towards the diversity of natural resources and the environment in Malaysia as well as meeting the needs of target groups, particularly on the aspects of R&D and services that contribute to the forestry sector offered by FRIM. Furthermore, we hope this platform will raise the awareness about the importance of forest conservation and sustainable use of natural resources through R&D and innovation.
