DG launches FRIM’s Greening Malaysia Programme

11 January 2021 (Monday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) Director General (DG) Dr Khali Aziz Hamzah launched the institute’s level Malaysia Greening Programme – 100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign at the FRIM Monthly Assembly this morning.

He planted a tongkat ali (Eurycoma longifolia) tree to mark the occasion. Also present to plant trees were Deputy DG (Research) Dato’ Dr Marzalina Mansor and Deputy DG (Operations) Dr Noor Azlin Yahya.

In his speech, Khali Aziz said FRIM aims to plant 100,000 trees in support of the campaign which was organised by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA) and launched by the Prime Minister on 5 January.

In addition, he said that FRIM’s research and development (R&D) direction would focus on strengthening forestry R&D; empowerment of commercialisation of R&D findings; mainstreaming biodiversity conservation; as well as enhancing the provision of technical services, advice and consultation related to the forestry and forest industry.

Khali Aziz reminded FRIM staff to continue adopting to the new norms and complying with the standard operation procedures (SOPs) for workplace. However, all technical services and R&D activities must be continued to meet the needs of customers and stakeholders.

Noor Azlin, who was invited to deliver a speech, said: “I understand that the DDG’s tasks are very challenging and covers a wide scope of FRIM management, including the campus management which is close to my heart.”

She promised to do her best in fulfilling all the responsibilities entrusted so that the aspirations of FRIM, KeTSA and the country could be achieved with the help and support of all parties.

In conjunction with the assembly, FRIM staff also took the pledge led by Ariff Fahmi Abu Bakar, representative of the Joint Council of Employees (MBJ) to strengthen integrity in carrying out all their duties. The DG also launched the publication on FRIM’s File Classification and presented copies to all the division directors.
