FRIM, JPNP collaborate in tropical forest research
14 February 2020 (Friday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Pahang State Government which was represented by the Pahang Forestry Department (JPNP) to collaborate in research and education at the Tropical Forest Research Centre Pahang.
At the event held yesterday at the FRIM Research Station in Jengka (SPF Jengka), FRIM was represented by Director General Datuk Dr Abd Latif Mohmod, while JPNP by its Director Dato’ Dr Mohd Hizamri Mohd Yasin in signing the MOU.

FRIM Forestry and Environment Director Dr Ismail Parlan and JPNP Deputy Director of Forestry (Development) Dato’ Samsu Anuar Nawi were present as witnesses.
In support of this collaboration, three main objectives have been outlined:
- Classification of part of the Tekam Forest Reserve as a research forest to support efforts in enhancing research in the area of forest management for the sustainable forest management;
- Establishing Pahang Tropical Forest Research Centre as a reference centre in the field of sustainable forest management; and
- Implementing eco-education technology transfer activities to customers and stakeholders.

In conjunction with the event, the launching of the Pahang Tropical Forest Research Centre, planting of merbau tree and visit to the Free Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE) study site were also conducted.
