FRIM organises tech talk
28 November 2018 (Wednesday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) organised a FRIM Technology Talk themed, ‘Sustainable Forestry: Innovations and Solutions’, at the Kinta Riverfront Hotel in Ipoh yesterday.
The programme officiated by FRIM Director General (DG) Dato’ Dr Abd Latif Mohmod aimed to highlight the results and output of FRIM research and development (R&D) projects, serve the needs of stakeholders in the field of forestry and forest products in general as well as provide solutions and share information.

“FRIM is in a unique position as it has expertise in almost all aspects of upstream and downstream in forestry including biodiversity conservation, production forest management, urban forestry, forest plantation, ecotourism, as well as wood and herbal products,” said Abd Latif in his speech.
Also present were FRIM Deputy DG (Research) Dr Samsudin Musa, Deputy DG (Operations) Dr Khali Aziz Hamzah, Institut Member Datuk Dr Nadzir Sheikh Fazir as well as other FRIM division directors.
This first in a series of technology talks to be held in the peninsula targetted in the Northern Zone, covering Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak. Over 100 participants comprising representatives from government and private agencies related to forestry; local authorities; housing developers; forest plantation and herbal entrepreneurs; landscape managers as well as interested individuals attended the programme.

FRIM experts and researchers from forestry and environmental; forest biodiversity; natural products; forestry biotechnology and forest products divisions shared the research findings and services during their presentations after the opening ceremony and keynote presentation. The first keynote address on ‘FRIM: centre of excellence of forestry R&D’ was presented by Samsudin, the second on ‘FRIM: a reservoir of potential’ by FRIM Innovation and Commercialisation Director Norhayati Nordin.

The programme concluded with a ‘Business Matching’ session to encourage further discussions between participatns and FRIM experts.
