17 December 2024 (Tuesday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has received ‘The BrandLaureate Brand of the Year Award 2024’ in the category of Excellence in Tropical Forestry Research at a ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

This prestigious recognition highlights FRIM’s significant contributions to tropical forestry research and development (R&D), including scientific innovations, meeting the needs of stakeholders, and strengthening FRIM’s position as a global leader in tropical forestry research.

FRIM Director General (DG) Dato’ Dr Ismail Parlan accepted the award from Guest of Honour YM Tengku Dato’ Dr Hishamuddin Zaizi Tengku Bendahara Azman Shah Al-Haj accompanied by The World Brands Foundation (TWBF) President Prof. Dr KK Johan as well as Members of TWBF Board Dr Oh Ei Sun and Prof. Emeritus Dr Uichol Kim.

Also present, FRIM Member of Institute (AI) Datuk Wira Sheikh Othman Sheikh Abdul Rahman, Deputy DG (Research) Dr Norwati Muhammad, Deputy DG (Operations) Mahmudin Saleh and Corporate Communication Head Toh An Nee.

FRIM was designated as a National Heritage Site in 2015 and is in the final stages of application for the UNESCO World Heritage Site status. FRIM continues to demonstrate its commitment to preserving and advancing tropical ecosystems for future generations.

Since 1926, FRIM has led various initiatives that integrate research with industry needs, driving innovation and sustainable economic growth. These efforts align with the country’s environmental goals and the global sustainability agenda, positioning FRIM as a key player in addressing environmental challenges.

The theme of this year’s award, ‘Your Brand, Your Award. Celebrating, Championing, Capitalising The Best of Your Brand!’, aligns with FRIM’s mission and achievements. This recognition not only enhances FRIM’s global reputation but also strengthens its resolve to continue contributing to the conservation and sustainable use of tropical forest ecosystems.

Ismail congratulated all FRIM staff, acknowledging that they were the true contributors to FRIM receiving this award. He also expressed gratitude to the AI members for their support in ensuring FRIM’s continued excellence.
