FRIM wins two awards at SRIE2022

11 October 2022 (Tuesday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has won two awards at the Selangor Research, Development and Innovation Expo (SRIE2022) on 6-9 October in Kuala Lumpur.

SRIE2022 received 1,000 entries for the R&D Award of which only 58 were shortlisted according to the required quality. Four FRIM inventions were shortlisted, three inventions in the biotechnology clusters and one in applied physics and chemistry cluster.

FRIM Achievements:

  • First Place in the Biotechnology Cluster Category for ‘JKT22: Potential Clone of Chromolaena odorata for Cosmeceutical Industry’ by Dr Farah Fazwa Md Arif, Syafiqah Nabilah Samsul Bahari, Norhayati Saffie, Dr Fadhilah Zainudin, Mazdiana Mohd Zain, Dr Mohd Kamal Nik Hasan, Dr Zunoliza Abdullah and Dr Mohd Zaki Abdullah; and
  • Second Place Biotechnology Cluster Category – ‘i-AQUIDs: Integrated Aquilaria ID system’ by Abdul Majid Jalil, Sahrim Lias, Mailina Jamil, Saidatul Husni Saidin, Mohammad Faridz Zollpatah, Mohd Shafik Yuzman Tolmanan, Muhammad Asnawi Mohd Rashid and Syahida Emiza Suhaimi.

SRIE 2022 is a platform for collaboration between the industry and academic sectors in the fields of research, development and innovation in Selangor. The awards were presented by the Selangor State Secretary, Dato’ Haris Kasim.

FRIM’s participations included:

  • ‘About trEEs: A Module on Treasuring Dipterocarps’ by Dr Noor Azlin Yahya, Norsham Suhaina Yaakob, Nik Azyyati Abdul Kadir, Nur Suriani Salleh, Azahari Mohd Yusoff and Naimah Che Long; and
  • ‘SpectaCare: Beyond Tradition’ by Traditional Knowledge Research Team represented by Firdaus Kamarulzaman, Dr Nik Musa’adah Mustapha, Saidatul Husni Saidin and Dr Mazura Md Pisar.
