NIFoS officials visit FRIM

17 June 2022 (Friday) – Two representatives of the National Institute of Forest Science (NIFoS), Korea, namely NIFoS President Dr Hyun Park and Director of Global Forestry Division Dr Hungsoon Choi, paid an official visit to Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Kepong, this morning.

They have met FRIM Director General Dr Ismail Parlan during the The XV World Forestry Congress 2021 in Seoul last month and the aim of this visit was to learn more about FRIM as well as to discuss possible research collaborations between NIFoS and FRIM.

Ismail greeted them at the Shorea Meeting Room and gave a briefing on FRIM’s background, vision and mission, functions, R&D activities and achievements, among others. Forestry and Environment Director Dr Wan Mohd Shukri Wan Ahmad also made a presentation on research projects conducted by FRIM in support of Sustainable Forest Management (SFM).

Also present, FRIM Forestry Biotechnology Director Dr Mohd Zaki Abdullah, Research Planning Director Dr Mohd Rosli Harun, Corporate Communication Head Toh An Nee, Asia Pacific Association of Forestry Research Institutions (APAFRI) Fellow Dr Gan Kee Sing and APAFRI Executive Secretary Dr Pin Kar Yong.

After the discussion, the guests were brought for nature trekking to see the ‘Crown Shyness’ phenomenon. Earlier, they also visited APAFRI Secretariat Office and were given a tour of the FRIM campus.
