Spiderhunter the Nectar Lover
Arachnothera chrysogenys or Yellow-eared spiderhunter (Kelicap Jantung Telinga Kuning) is a small bird that can be easily identified by it’s long curvy bill. Yellow-eared spiderhunters have long tongues specially adapted for nectar-feeding.
In FRIM, they can be frequently seen seeking for nectar on the crowns of small flowering trees near Rumah Arboreta (JKR 514), canopy walkway, nature trails and at the Kepong Botanical Gardens. This bird sometimes feed on spiders and insects. The species is widely distributed in East and West Malaysia but and is totally protected under wildlife act 2010.
